The machine shop industry is one of the most important material removal and modification methods. It is a collection of material-working processes in which power-driven machine tools, such as saws, lathes, milling machines, and drill presses, are used with a sharp cutting tool to mechanically cut the material to achieve the desired geometry.
Materials used by machine shops to create parts with characteristics outside of the range of
non-plastic materials include Nylon, UHMW, ULTEM, Acetal/Delrin, PVC, PEEK, PET and
PTFE (rod, tube and plate).
